After weeks of hard work and training, three top finalists have advanced to the final round of the 2016 Synapse Life Science Competition! Congratulations to Provant, TopSpin360 and Virtual Possibilities!
Provant has developed a medical image-guidance platform used to target prostate cancer and deliver therapeutic interventions less invasively, TopSpin360 is a patent pending device developed to prevent concussions through neck strengthening, and Virtual Possibilities (VPI) is commercializing novel surgical navigation technology designed to improve the safety and accuracy of laparoscopic procedures.
This year’s eleven qualifying Synapse finalists were chosen from a record number of applications received, ranging from point of care devices, advanced diagnostic tools, medical devices, and medical tech innovations. The teams were narrowed down as they progressed through a series of milestones to help them develop the business side to their ideas, build commercialization strategies, and learn to pitch effectively.
At the final showcase event on April 6th, Provant, TopSpin360 and Virtual Possibilities will each have 10 minutes to pitch their idea and 10 minutes to answer questions from a panel of experts, in hopes of taking home over $50,000 of cash and professional services. First prize is worth $40,000, second is $7,500 and third is $6,500.
The Synapse showcase brings together investors, business leaders and the life science community from the greater Hamilton and Toronto area. All 10 teams, including the top three finalists, will have to opportunity to present posters at the final event for guests to engage with. An additional prize of $1,000 cash will be awarded to the team with the best poster.
