Founder Institute’s Montréal branch has partnered with MedStack to offer a digital health startup fellowship for organizations that are working on solutions to cure, prevent, and mitigate threats to health.

The fellowship is available to companies from around the world that are applying to join Founder Institute Montréal’s 2020 cohort. Anyone building a digital health startup in Montréal can apply to the program for free, rather than pay the standard $50. The best applicants will be awarded the fellowship, allowing them to enroll in the program, valued at $1299, for free. Entrepreneurs across Canada are invited to apply.

“The digital health industry is changing very quickly in light of COVID, with more government and industry support going towards things like telemedicine,” MedStack CEO Balaji Gopalan told BetaKit. “And yet there is still a fair amount of uncertainty with respect to data privacy that needs to be overcome.”

The Founder Institute’s four-month, part-time program aims to help pre-seed entrepreneurs launch and build a company through structured training courses, practical business-building assignments, and expert feedback from a network of business mentors. The organization will run a virtual cohort in the Fall of this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In order to be eligible for the MedStack Digital Health Fellowship to the Montréal Founder Institute, companies must complete an application and admissions test by the final application deadline of August 2. The recipient of the fellowship will be awarded within 10 days after the deadline.

Participating companies will be also eligible for MedStack’s Startup Program, which includes technical mentorship on how to effectively launch your product with MedStack and receive a 50 percent discount for one year on MedStack’s annual startup package subscription.

MedStack aims to enable the adoption of digital innovation in healthcare by helping entrepreneurs build healthtech applications, which can be difficult to navigate since hospitals have complex onboarding processes. The company’s focus is to help developers meet privacy compliance requirements through automation.

“We’ve always admired Founder Institute Montréal’s deep commitment to supporting early-stage entrepreneurs,” Gopalan added. “Through this partnership, we hope to provide the necessary guidance based on the experience we have working with many successful digital health companies, ultimately accelerating digital health adoption and together building an even stronger ecosystem.”
