We are developing a novel patented hybrid electric powertrain. It is based on an innovative gearless system comprising only one electric motor/generator, a centrifugal and a dog clutch assembly. This results in a very simple and compact architecture that is economical and versatile, and it also provides the end user with an electric generator on demand. Moreover, considering the smaller engine and battery size of a typical parallel hybrid powertrain, this system is also quite cost effective and competitive compared to a same power conventional engine powertrain.
We have already built a mechanical prototype to prove the concept, and we are now developing the control system in collaboration with our partners. We have successfully validated the system controller via computer simulations, and we are going to integrate it into a minimum viable product (MVP). We will thereafter conduct test activities to gather the MVP performance data and to further refine the control’s algorithms.
