LONDON, Ontario – Sept. 10, 2021 – Excessive blood loss is one of the leading causes of death in trauma patients, and trauma is the fourth leading cause of death overall for all ages. That’s where Front Line Medical Technologies, a medical device company lowering the barriers to bleeding control and resuscitation worldwide, comes in. Front Line is hoping to change the way first responders and front-line medical professionals manage these traumatic injuries with the creation of the COBRA-OS™, the world’s smallest REBOA device to control bleeding.
The COBRA-OS™ is the first 4 French REBOA (Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta) device and it is the smallest on the market. It is an innovative, easy-to-use aortic occlusion device with an extremely low profile for temporary hemorrhage control and resuscitation. REBOA devices are used in emergency situations, like unstable pelvic fractures, to prevent excessive blood loss and bridge patients to the operating room. While most REBOA procedures take about 10 minutes, the COBRA-OS™ has taken just over a minute in studies, which could be the difference between life and death.
