Meet the Speaker
Isabel Nolan
Director of Programs at Startup Canada
Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, I flew to Vancouver with a one-way ticket in 2019.
Having previously worked in the hospitality sector as an events coordinator, I was eager to explore a new path while still feeding my passion for connection. My first exposure to the entrepreneurial world was working with Volition, who help founders navigate knowledge gaps and tackle those “now what?!” moments. Here I lead on organising their monthly pitch nights and after seeing 200+ live pitches, I learned first-hand the art of the pitch, the common roadblocks many entrepreneurs face and the sheer grit it takes for them to make their dreams a reality.
Since August 2021, I’ve been excitedly working at Startup Canada. As the Director of Programs for Startup Canada’s flagship programs, I create entrepreneur-centric programs with the primary mission of connecting Canada’s entrepreneurs with the tools, community, and support they need to start and build their businesses.
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the passion from the entrepreneurs I get to meet and work with and being able to be a part of their journey and their growth is truly inspiring!
The thing I’m most proud of in my work at Startup Canada is I curate the Startup Women Advocacy Network (SWAN) which features 13 early stage, women-identifying entrepreneurs each representing a province/territory in Canada who advocate and champion the needs of women entrepreneurs from coast to coast to coast.
In addition to my work with Startup Canada, I also collaborate with other organizations who are working towards furthering Women in business. I have been working with Women in Tech Regatta since December 2020, supporting with their events in Vancouver and Seattle. Women in Tech Regatta is a gathering to connect (wo)men in tech to mentors, peers & resources.
