On May 12, Tammy Hwang took the stage at our Big DiF event to accept the fifth annual Mark Chamberlain DiFizen of the Year Award in front of a crowd of Hamilton’s innovation community.
The Big DiF is a celebration of entrepreneurship and innovation in Hamilton, and the award is presented to an individual in the Innovation Factory ecosystem who makes a big difference in Hamilton’s business and innovation community. Case in point, Tammy Hwang!
Tammy is a founding partner of CoMotion Group (coworking spaces and support for Hamilton entrepreneurs), co-founder of Strive Consulting (linking nonprofits and young professionals Hamilton), past co-chair of Hamilton Hive (Hamilton’s young professional network), past senior manager of entrepreneur experience here at Innovation Factory, has been involved in planning past Startup Weekends in Hamilton, and currently works for Hamilton’s Economic Development department on Global Hamilton Connect. Phew!
As Software Hamilton’s Kevin Browne sums up in his recent profile on her Big DiF win: “Tammy is one of those people who goes completely above and beyond their job description or expectations. You can get hired for a gig to help startups and do a great job, punching out after your 40 hours, and that’s wonderful. But you can also take it to the next level and make it something you live and something you lead, and that’s what Tammy does.”
Needless to say, it was an easy choice to select Tammy as this year’s DiFizen!
iF clients from various industries were also on hand to showcase during the event, as The Big DiF serves as our open house and client showcase. The lineup included: Laifa Baby, Sniper Skin, EQAOquizzer, Whey2Live,
A huge thanks to event partners McMaster University, the City of Hamilton and McMaster Innovation Park, whose support made The Big DiF free for attendees.
