Synapse Life Science Consortium Partners with Mohawk Medbuy

The Synapse Life Science Consortium, Hamilton’s formal regional life science cluster organization, has formed a non-exclusive procurement partnership with Mohawk Medbuy (MMC). The collaboration underscores both organizations’ shared commitment to fostering an ecosystem that facilitates innovation in the health care and life science sectors.

A not-for-profit, shared services organization, Mohawk Medbuy brings a wealth of resources to the Consortium – ranging from significant expertise in large-scale sourcing to providing education related to public sector procurement.  As the supply chain partner trusted by hundreds of Canadian hospitals, MMC drives value and innovation across the health care supply chain to support the best possible patient outcomes. With over $3 billion of spend under contract, MMC has the significant infrastructure, tools and experience needed to provide Synapse with procurement solutions and related education and development opportunities.

“The partnership with Mohawk Medbuy enhances the overall impact of our ecosystem as a premier destination for life science innovation,” said Alex Muggah, Director of the Synapse Life Science Consortium. “Their significant procurement expertise and commitment to health care innovation will help drive the development of our life science sector in the greater Hamilton region, promoting further commercialization and market opportunities for scaling technologies.”

“Innovation is at the core of MMC and one of the driving forces behind our success,” said Ally Dhalla, MMC’s Senior Vice President, Pharmacy and Clinical Services and Innovation. “Through this collaboration, we look forward to offering life science innovators education and related support in navigating public sector procurement. Our partnership with Synapse aligns with MMC’s commitment to facilitate the adoption of innovative products, services and technologies that can improve the delivery of patient care.”

The Synapse Life Science Consortium is backed by Innovation Factory, a business accelerator that plays a supportive role in this partnership. The combined networks and resources of these organizations, featuring hundreds of life science companies, will contribute to the growth opportunities for innovation throughout the region.
