Storefront on James North transforming into business accelerator

Here’s another sign of transformation on James Street North. A storefront at 245 James St. N. formerly used by Ricca’s Furniture — a family-owned retailer since 1955 — is going high-tech.

Forget about selling mattresses or end tables. The focus of the new venture will be apps, software and other kinds of technology.

Forge Downtown is scheduled to open Sept. 1 as a “business accelerator,” a place for young entrepreneurs hoping to commercialize their inventions. The effort is a collaboration between McMaster University, the Innovation Factory at McMaster Innovation Park and Mohawk College.
