“A couple of McMaster University graduate students want to help Hamilton kids borrow a bike from the library, just as they would borrow a book.
Charles Burke and Justin Hall, who are both transportation planners, have created an initiative called Start the Cycle. Children between the ages of nine and 15 would use their library cards to check out a bike, helmet, lock and bike light for free. Then they’d return the gear to the library after enjoying their ride.
It’s a different model from the city’s bike share program, Social Bicycles (SoBi), which is limited to those 16 and older and requires a credit card.”
