When Innovation Factory’s Executive Director, David Carter, received an email from a community member looking to connect with an expert on titanium nanoparticles, he didn’t think he could offer much help. The request was, after all, very specific.
Then David realized he had just met with Ishwar Puri, Dean of Engineering at McMaster University and founder of NanoSpin, a startup company that utilizes nanoparticles.
David reached out to Puri who was able use his expert network to make the connection and help the community member.
This experience was the driving factor that led David to develop HamOntConnect.com, a web application designed to help iF clients and community members alike share “asks” for things they need assistance with and facilitate connections with people who have the expertise or networks to help.
The idea was fittingly showcased at this year’s HIVEX: Connect conference, which allowed David to draw on the help of some of Hamilton’s top young professionals and identify resources and opportunities that should be included in the web app.
This interaction helped to fast-track the idea and get validation that the greater Hamilton community was indeed behind him on the initiative.
The idea is that the app will facilitate connections faster and help drive startups forward.
David launched the beta app December 8th at Democamp23 and is encouraging the Hamilton community to log on to the app and see how they can help.
Get connecting, #HamOnt!
