Inclusivity Business Resource Series: QueerTech (Barriers & Challenges)
Virtual Event | Free
Creating an open and inclusive work environment that attracts and retains diverse talent has never been more essential to remain competitive.
Across Canada, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals working in various markets encounter workplace cultures and unique barriers to inclusion, distinctive to this vibrant population. Despite considerable progress made toward creating wholly inclusive and diverse workplace environments, we acknowledge that there is still much work to be done.
Challenges such as stigmatization, a higher risk of harassment, intersectionality, and lack of visibility, particularly for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) individuals, continue to persist in our workplaces. Now more than ever, it’s crucial to address these issues and seek meaningful solutions.
This webinar aims to increase awareness and understanding of the challenges and barriers facing members of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities in the workplace and to provide practical steps for creating more inclusive and supportive work environments.
Key Takeaways:
1. Embracing Pride: The term ‘Pride’ is more than just a celebration; it signifies embracing one’s identity, renouncing shame, and honoring diversity. It is a symbol of unity, empowerment, and authenticity in the workplace.
2. Unmasking Authenticity: Discrimination based on factors such as sexual orientation, race, religion, or ethnicity often forces individuals to conceal their true selves daily. This not only drains their energy but also limits their potential in the workplace. It’s time to create spaces where authenticity is celebrated.
3. The Power of Allyship: True change begins with allyship. This means actively engaging with local communities, taking concrete actions, and normalizing inclusive practices. Examples include using correct pronouns, offering gender-affirming healthcare benefits, and reviewing policies to ensure inclusivity for everyone. It’s about standing in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQ+ community and advocating for equal rights.
