Understanding mental illness is one of the pressing issues of our time. Mental illness will impact all Canadians, either directly or indirectly at some point in their lives. There is a 50 % chance that mental illness will be experienced in one’s lifetime. Less than half of those experiencing mental health issues will receive help. Stigma remains the greatest barrier. And yet, there is hope, it is treatable, those who live with this experience can and do thrive.

The Thrive! Initiative seeks to answer the following:

  • How do I know I have a mental illness?
  • How do I know I am affecting those I love?
  • What can I do?
  • What does a mental illness mean for my future?

Thrive! (Not Survive) The Thrive! Speaker Series has been created to:

  • teach people to recognize mental illness
  • teach how to differentiate between normal changes in human emotion and mental illness including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and psychosis
  • provide information about seeking help
  • move toward an understanding of how to live well

THRIVE! A Mental Health Initiative

Unique to the Thrive! Series is a focus on a Strength Based approach to realizing mental health. This approach seeks to discover strengths unique to the individual and to utilize these strengths to promote mental health. The goal is to understand one’s strengths and to implement strategies to THRIVE. The goal is to develop your road map to health and active participation in your wellness.

Starting in October 2018, the Thrive! Speaker Series will host 3 interactive sessions to begin to move toward these goals.

Session 1: Date: October 16, 2018. Location: The Cotton Factory Time: 6:00 pm

Session 2: Date: November 13, 2018. Location: Time: 6:00 pm
