BDO Financial Boot Camp
May 22 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Attend this session to make more informed and effective financial decisions.
BDO will cover best practices and empower entrepreneurs to grow their business with the confidence that comes from effective corporate governance – including reporting, compliance, controls, and funding.
CB Insights analyzed 242 startup failures, 70 percent of funded startups do not make it past their first round, and three of the top five reasons are related to financial literacy. Improving your financial literacy allows an entrepreneur to help more than themselves; learn how to help your employees, investors, customers, and positively contribute to the effective functioning of a society’s economic stability and development.
Speaker: Rick Burdeniuk, Senior Manager in Government Incentive Advisory, BDO
Richard is enthusiastic about science and finance; he specializes in funding growth and innovation through government incentives. He leads the GTA grant and incentive team and has helped companies access over $135M in grants and tax credits.
His experience in entrepreneurship built his appreciation for the owner’s bottom line, while his work in private sector R&D provided the technical knowledge to work with investors, accountants, lawyers, and regulators. The Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program is one of the more controversial funding programs, and his history with the program goes back over 20 years. He has participated in CRA policy development and tax court, and been a part of many other funding programs successes across the Canada. He has also coordinated international R&D efforts and filed incentive claims in the US, UK, Australia, and Brazil.
As an entrepreneur, Richard raised capital in two ventures developing software technologies for distributed computation, image recognition, and scientific simulation. He has contributed code to open source projects and worked with many prominent organizations.
