An Overview of Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency: January 2018 Lunch ‘n Learn

Join us for 2018 and a new series of intriguing Lunch ‘n Learn topics! We are excited to present our first session of the year on January 16: a closer look at virtual currencies and how they are impacting the global market.
Salvatore Delle Palme, founder of HAMILTON BLOCKCHAIN, and Derek Braid, founder of Burlington Bitcoin, will lead this session. They’ll begin with some background on the history of the Bitcoin project, followed by an examination of its economic and technical aspects. Next, Bitcoin will be compared to Ethereum, the second largest cryptocurrency network by market capitalization. The session will end with an assessment of the current cryptocurrency business ecosystem and Q&A.

Salvatore Delle Palme started down the Bitcoin rabbit hole in 2012, and soon became one of the first people in Canada to work full-time in the cryptocurrency industry. In 2013, he joined San Francisco-based startup Kraken.com, and for three years helped grow the company into one of the industry’s largest and most trusted brands. In 2017, he founded HAMILTON BLOCKCHAIN, the city’s first industry meetup.
Derek Braid is a Full Stack Software Developer (node, react), currently working for Lift.co. Former financial planner, biochem/neuroscience undergrad from Western University. Deep interest in hockey analytics and cryptocurrency (founded Burlington Bitcoin in 2014).
