HAMILTON, ON – October 22, 2025 – The Synapse Life Science Consortium released the 2024 Hamilton Life Science Cluster Report, presenting its annual assessment of the region’s performance. Compiled from survey data of public and private entities, the report tracks key metrics across funding, organizational structure, workforce dynamics, research advancements, and facilities within the Hamilton life science community.
This year’s findings confirm the ecosystem, now comprising 296 public and private organizations, generated a combined $1.8 billion in revenue. The labour force supporting this economic activity expanded to 51,166 employees. Furthermore, total annual research funding reached $738 million, reflecting a 7.7% increase in capital designated for both basic and translational research.
Growth was also evident in physical and academic capacity. The city’s total facility space expanded to 14,500,286 sq ft, marking a 2.14% increase since 2023. Within this infrastructure, dedicated research lab space reached 4,854,437 sq ft. Parallel to this expansion, academic engagement remained strong as undergraduate and graduate student populations grew by 11.5%. Clinical service delivery demand also grew, noting a 6.2% increase in hospital admissions and an 8.4% increase in emergency visits since 2023.
