Ideally, access to a bicycle is something all Canadians should have. Health improvement, a lower carbon footprint and the relative affordability of a bike are all great reasons why cycling is a desirable form of transportation.
As passionate cyclists with lots of bicycles lying around their former McMaster University graduate office, Justin Hall and Charles Burke wanted to help others gain access. So they started small, lending out their bike collection to friends, library-style.
“It didn’t take long before other people on campus were interested in borrowing a bike,” says Hall. “That made us realize there’s a demand for this type of service, and Start the Cycle was born.”
