Global Entrepreneurship Week events you won’t want to miss!

Although we celebrate entrepreneurship and innovation regularly here at Innovation Factory, we’re excited to see a number of noteworthy events that will be taking place around this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW, #GEW2015) – the world’s largest celebration of entrepreneurship.

GEW is from November 16-22 this year, and it’s geared at inspiring people around the world through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and entrepreneurs. GEW celebrates the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

In Hamilton, we’re lucky to have a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, and as a result there are a number of great events coming up around the time of GEW that we’re sharing with you! If you’re an entrepreneur or enthusiastic about innovation, we encourage you to check some of these out:

Innovation-Night-LogoInnovation Night – Nov. 10

Innovation Night is Hamilton’s key event for innovators to practice and perfect their pitch, and present their ideas to Hamilton’s business community. It’s perfect for entrepreneurs who would like the opportunity to talk about their idea to a sizeable group and get proper pitch training. For guests who want to come and watch, there’s the chance to observe up to 15 two-minute presentations by up-and-coming innovators, along with networking and refreshments.

Startup Weekend Hamilton: Internet of Thingsstartupweekend – Nov 13-15

Startup Weekend is a global initiative that takes place in cities all over the world. Entrepreneurs come together in teams and work hard over the course of the weekend to turn an idea into reality within 54 hours. This year’s theme – Internet of Things – is about building the next generation of connected apps, hardware and websites that bring people, places, and things together using the Internet.

Lunch_and_learnTech Lessons for Non-technical Entrepreneurs – Nov. 17

Lunch ‘n Learns at Innovation Factory are great opportunities to learn from industry profes­sionals about valuable, timely top­ics, network and enjoy a delicious lunch at no cost. They’re held nine times per year and are open to the public. This month’s topic tackles the relationship between non-technical entrepreneurs and the web developers they hire, teaching non-tech founders to approach a web project correctly.

GameDevDrinks – Nov. 18

The goal of GameDevDrinks is about creating a casual social setting where gamers, students, hobbyists, enthusiasts, or industry professionals can come together to share ideas, war stories and, of course, game demos. November’s keynote speakers are Jason Krogh and his team from Sago Sago, who will share their experience in building a children’s mobile game.

mipMcMaster Innovation Park’s Entrepreneur Fair – Nov. 19

The Entrepreneur Fair at McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) is an excellent forum for learning about entrepreneurship in Hamilton. Now in its third year, this month’s Fair will bring a roster of informative seminars that include: developing an elevator pitch, discovering funding for your business, Business Model Canvas generation, and elements of business success. The keynote address will be one of Inc. Magazine‘s Top 100 Leadership speakers, Bobby Umar.

hackinghealthHacking Health Hamilton Café: Teamwork – Nov. 19

With Hamilton’s growing reputation as a health and life science centre of excellence, it’s great to see entrepreneurial initiatives taking off in the health space. Hacking Health Hamilton is one such initiative, and their cafes provide an informal meetup designed to improve healthcare by inviting tech experts and healthcare professionals to collaborate on realistic, human-centric solutions.

ACTION is an intensive, hands-on startup conference aimed at teaching critical venture creation skills through active, experiential learning. The goal of the conference is to bring a wide variety of people together, have them make connections, and inspire them to go out and disrupt the status quo.
